District Mission Statement

The mission of The Atascadero Unified School District, a progressive organization in a rural and supportive community that upholds a tradition of distinguished and high performing programs, is to empower students to be critical thinkers, lifelong learners, responsible citizens, and effective communicators by providing challenging and innovative educational opportunities adapted to the students’ unique needs and abilities in a safe and enriching environment under the guidance of a professional and nurturing staff.

Welcome to the Fine Arts Academy

It’s going to be an amazing year at the Atascadero Fine Arts Academy! As the new principal, I am thrilled to be part of the fabulous team of teachers, support staff, parents, and students that help create our Fine Arts FAAamily!  Our campus will continue to offer a unique schedule to our fourth-eighth grade students in which they receive their academic classes each morning and then choose from an array of arts-based specialty classes each afternoon.

This year, as we continue to move forward with the Common Core State Standards, we’ll be enhancing our morning academic program by providing more opportunities for our student to use their critical thinking skills, explain their thinking, solve complex problems, and take their learning to a deeper level.  However, you may see our students demonstrate their thinking through creative displays of learning throughout our campus. By working in collaborative groups and writing, acting, singing, or designing something visual to communicate their learning, our students will be able to use their natural creativity in dynamic ways. We believe this approach will not only enhance academic learning, but also allow students to synthesize what they are learning through memorable learning experiences.

The learning continues each afternoon when our students attend specialty art based classes that they registered for late last spring. This year, our specialty classes include: dance, drama, computers, ceramics, visual art, chorus, band, strings, drums, and more!  These classes are taught by our morning core teachers and other teachers that share sites within AUSD.  We have a great team lined up and we feel the students will thoroughly enjoy both their morning and afternoon classes.

We are very excited to welcome three new teachers to our FAAamily this year and are confident that they, too will put a creative touch on student learning! Aleea Brooks-Armijo will be teaching our seventh and eighth grade math courses each morning and then be instructing math support classes and a computer course in the afternoon. Sabrina Pratt will spend her mornings teaching at Atascadero High School and then join the Fine Arts Academy team to teach theater arts/drama. In addition, we're thrilled to have Carolyn Balogh join our staff where she'll be teaching ceramics to groups of students each afternoon.

You’ll have many opportunities to see our students spotlighting their talents throughout the year! Locally, you’ll see our students perform during the Colony Days Parade and Winter Wonderland.  However, we also have many performances and concerts that you can learn more about from visiting our school and our website at atasfaa.sharpschool.net.

Many of the amazing opportunities that our students experience are supported by our wonderful PTSA. We have a new Board this year and they are already organizing many activities for our upcoming school year; including our annual Art-A-Thon.  The PTSA helps fund classroom supplies, field trips, assemblies and so much more! Our PTSA meets on the third Thursday of each month and welcomes all FAA families and interested community members to attend.

On behalf of everyone at the Fine Arts Academy, we look forward to a great year ahead! Our office will be open throughout the week and our class lists will be posted on Friday, August 22nd at 4pm. We are very excited to meet all our new and returning students on the first day of school which is Monday, August 25th.  We also look forward to meeting with all of our families at Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, September 3rd where parents can learn more about what an exciting year we have planned at the Fine Arts Academy!
